Organized in cooperation with Ministry of Economy, the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM) and the Industrial Designers’ Society of Turkey (ETMK), as a TURQUALITY® Program event, “Design Turkey Industrial Design Awards” is one of the greatest award organizations in the innovation and branding field. Design Turkey, being supported by International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (ICSID), awards good design in our country until 2008. Since the first year it was held, having 1500 applications and approximately 300 products awarded in different categories, Design Turkey Awards features the only systematic evaluation system in Turkey’s industrial design field. By bringing the creative designs that steer Turkish industry forefront and enabling awarded designs branding not only in Turkey, but also in international fields, Design Turkey Awards is held for the fifth time this year. The award ceremony will be conducted as part of Turkey Design Week which will be performed as the first time this year. Panels, conferences and workshops will enrich the organization with the participation of worldwide known designers, universities, design schools, industrialists and academicians.

Award categories consists of 13 industries including packaging, lighting, electronic products, domestic appliances, home and office equipment, public and commercial products, furniture, sports, hobby, game and personal products, transportation and carrying devices, building materials, investment products and medical equipment. Products applied for Design Turkey are products produced with industrial methods and introduced into the market between January 1st, 2014 and June 30th, 2016; whose designers, producers or brand owners are Turkish citizens. In addition, within the scope of “Design Turkey Industrial Design Awards”, in order to support creative ideas that can point the way for the industry in the future, the category of “Conceptual Design Awards” in which the design projects are evaluated that are not included for production takes place. This year, finalists which rank among the top three in industrial design- context unity competitions are deemed to apply to Design Turkey conceptual design category directly and freely.

The products that pass the pre-selection will be evaluated in 3 categories including “Good Design Award”, “Outstanding Design Award” and “Conceptual Design Award” and on sectoral basis by an international jury with more than 30 design authorities as every year. Products will be evaluated based on the criteria such as the innovation they bring, the difference they present, their responsiveness to user needs, their functionality and the aesthetic values they carry. Designs awarded in the competition, which will provide a great contribution to Turkey’s branding with design, will direct industrialists about the features that a good design should carry and also it will be an important guide in the determination of the right design strategies in the product development process. Winner designs will be promoted both in national and international platforms through exhibitions and publications.

The award ceremony will be conducted between October 18-22, 2016, as part of “Turkey Design Week” which will be performed as the first time this year in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy and the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM) . During Turkey Design Week, panels, conferences and workshops will be organized with the participation of worldwide known designers, universities, design schools, industrialists and academicians in industrial design, fashion design and visual communication design fields. The organization will be enriched with the exhibitions and runway shows of the product and projects by the finalists of the design competitions being held throughout the year. Turkish designs, which are awarded in the globally prestigious design competitions, will also be part of the event as well as national/international project exhibitions of the design centers and design offices. The event that will bring together all partners in the design field under the same roof, will form an integrated design ecosystem, by also including the Ceremony and Exhibition of Design Turkey Award.
