Bursa business people have taken action after Mr. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said “We would never import anything that we could produce.” Mr. İbrahim Burkay, the President of BTSO said “We have gotten ready to produce smart textile and some kind of cloths that could cushion during bleeding, take some survival values such as the pulse, stress, body temperature etc. and could send them to the centre wirelessly.”
Bursa business world put total support behind the words of Mr. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan who said “We would not import any product, software or system that could be designed, produced and developed in our own country except in the case of an emergency.” Bursa business world coming together under the leadership of Mr. İbrahim Burkay, the President of the Bursa Chamber of Commerce and Industry held a meeting on short notice so as to determine the needs of Turkish Armed Forces. While the meeting held by Bursa business world to determine how to fulfil Turkish Armed Forces’ needs, Mr. İbrahim Burkay mentioned that they made a move to produce, smart and multi-functional military uniforms and equipments for Turkish Soldiers by using Nano- technological, smart and functional textile and electronic technology.
“BURSA’S SIGNATURE TO WORLD’S GIANT COMPANIES”
President Burkay said “World’s giant companies such as NASA, Boeing and Airbus have procured many parts used in their products from Bursa. Parts and products that Turkish Armed Forces have needed are available in Bursa Our companies providing parts used in some machines produced by the most important companies of the world could develop the products required by Turkish Armed Forces. In this context, Bursa business world is ready to take on the task much more actively for our national and native projects.” Emphasizing that defence industry could grow rapidly where the automotive industry is very powerful, Mr. Burkay mentioned that Bursa is one of the most important automotive production centres in Turkey. Mr. Burkay said “We are ready to meet all needs of Turkish Armed Forces”
SHIELDS FOR TURKISH SOLDIERS
Stating that they would like to make Bursa Technology Coordination and R&D Centre (BUTEKOM) special on military textile, technical textile and smart textiles, Mr. Burkay said that BTSO has worked in cooperation with the Undersecretariat for Defence Industries. President Burkay mentioned that they would improve the cooperation between the institutions within the scope of the project called “Nefer” and continued his speech with these sentences: “Such a fascinating cloth can be produced that it can cushion during blooding by shrinking automatically like a natural cushion. Thanks to the various micro sensors on the smart cloths; some survival values could be recorded and observed such as the pulse, stress, body temperature etc., so it would be possible to determine whether the soldiers are in a clash of arms or any other state of emergency. Also these data would be able to tracked by the command centre. Cloths that can secrete vitamin and increase body immunity by using nanotechnology and microcapsulation technologies, will be able to increase functionalities when combined with this kind of cloth during military operation. Apart from these kind of cloths, some kind of equipment such as special helmets and monitor systems, night vision systems will be able to increase the military capability and security. Now that we are a developed country, it is necessary for our military armies, like the special operations forces to use such kind of equipment. So we should create a market for such products We have worked in cooperation with the Undersecretariat for Defence Industries. Countries have serious agreements on the soldiers of the future. We would like to have the right to comment on these issues.
FOR THE SOLDIERS OF THE FUTURE
Stating that BUTEKOM became accredited by the international institutions in December 2017, President Burkay said “Advanced Composite Materials Research and Excellence Centre will come into operation in June. Thanks to our Textile and Technical Textile Excellence Centre, more than 1.200 test in a broad range on composite material technologies will be performed in this centre. All non-combustibility tests required by the sectors such as railway systems, transportation and aviation industry will be performed here. This centre to be competent for performing all tests on material categorization under the same roof, provides savings on time while creating opportunities for our companies in terms of effective resource utilization. Qualification of the researches will be increased in this context.”

Stating that almost 130 companies and NGOs in Bursa under the leadership of Bursa Chamber of Commerce and Industry have put their support behind the Turkish Armed Forces leading an operation in Afrin against the terrorist organizations, Mr. Burkay said that the strong economy has provided assurance for Turkey. Stating that success of the conterterrorism military operation in Afrin, Syria has reflected credit on Turkish economy and developed trust and confidence for Turkey and Turkish economy across the world, Mr. Burkay said “’Operation Olive Branch’ has an importance so as to to provide innocent civilians’ security in our borders and nearby geography by cleaning up the terrorist organization in the region under threat of territorial integrity and border security. Mr. Burkay said “As of Bursa business world representatives and non-governmental organizations, we will lay claim to our country with the same unity and solidarity for ever and ever; like we did courageously against the treacherous coup attempt on July 15th by banding together.”

The fair was attended by 257 companies from Turkey, including 98 from Bursa under the leadership of Uludag Textile Exporters Association (UTİB). Bursa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BTSO) participated in Heimtextil with 100-company representativeswithin the scope of Global Fair Agency Project.
Turkish products took part in Heimtextil, known as the most prestigious organization of the world in home textile and decoration products, through its R&D, design and brand power. The Heimtextil in Frankfurt, Germany, held on January 9-12, was attended by 257 companies from Turkey, including 98 from Bursa under the leadership of Uludag Textile Exporters Association (UTİB). Bursa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BTSO) made observations with 100-company representatives during fair where the heart of textile industry beats, within the scope of the Global Fair Agency project. Turkish firms won a great appreciation of nearly 70 thousand foreign professional visitors in the fair where 2 thousand 941 companies from 65 countries participated. Turkish home textile firms have exhibited their newest products such as bed linens, beds, blankets, carpets, curtains, decorative fabrics, cushions, pillows, bathroom textiles, tapestries and wallpapers.
Being Europe’s number one in home textile and world's fourth largest exporter, Turkey aims to realize $ 4 billion exports up until 2023. Turkish home textile industry is annually participating in the Heimtextil with innovative and distinctive designs, in order to reinforce its power in the entire world, to open up to new markets and to consolidate the peak point.
The number of Turkish participants is increasing every year
The number of companies participating to Heimtextil from Turkey which is advancing in firm steps towards becoming a global power in the field of Home Textile, is increasing day by day. The number of Turkish firms participating in Heimtextil in 2010 was 146. While the number of Turkish companies participating in the fair last year was around 245, this figure has risen to 257 this year.

Explaining the expectations for the New Year in exports, Ibrahim Burkay noted that the average growth performance of the EU countries in the New Year is expected to reach 2.2 percent. Ibrahim Burkay, emphasising that a likely recovery in the EU markets will also have a positive impact on the exports of Bursa and Turkey, has said that: "The developments in the market are very important to us. At this point, I find our President's travel to France quite important. Along with the support of Spain and Italy to countries such as Germany and England, which shape European economy, the market growth will contribute to the start of a new process in the export of our country and our Bursa. We hope to recapture the 6th year-growth performance of Turkey that is realized between the years 2002 – 2008.

Uludag Textile Exporters Association (UTİB) Vice Chairman Osman Nuri Canik said that Turkish companies have been among the most important actors of the world's most prestigious fairs, such as Heimtextil, with their breakthroughs in the last 15-20 years. Design Turkey, being supported by International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (ICSID), awards good design in our country until 2008. Since the first year it was held, having 1500 applications and approximately 300 products awarded in different categories, Design Turkey Awards features the only systematic evaluation system in Turkey’s industrial design field. By bringing the creative designs that steer Turkish industry forefront and enabling awarded designs branding not only in Turkey, but also in international fields, Design Turkey Awards is held for the fifth time this year. The award ceremony will be conducted as part of Turkey Design Week which will be performed as the first time this year. Panels, conferences and workshops will enrich the organization with the participation of worldwide known designers, universities, design schools, industrialists and academicians.
Award categories consists of 13 industries including packaging, lighting, electronic products, domestic appliances, home and office equipment, public and commercial products, furniture, sports, hobby, game and personal products, transportation and carrying devices, building materials, investment products and medical equipment. Products applied for Design Turkey are products produced with industrial methods and introduced into the market between January 1st, 2014 and June 30th, 2016; whose designers, producers or brand owners are Turkish citizens. In addition, within the scope of “Design Turkey Industrial Design Awards”, in order to support creative ideas that can point the way for the industry in the future, the category of “Conceptual Design Awards” in which the design projects are evaluated that are not included for production takes place. This year, finalists which rank among the top three in industrial design- context unity competitions are deemed to apply to Design Turkey conceptual design category directly and freely.
The products that pass the pre-selection will be evaluated in 3 categories including “Good Design Award”, “Outstanding Design Award” and “Conceptual Design Award” and on sectoral basis by an international jury with more than 30 design authorities as every year. Products will be evaluated based on the criteria such as the innovation they bring, the difference they present, their responsiveness to user needs, their functionality and the aesthetic values they carry. Designs awarded in the competition, which will provide a great contribution to Turkey’s branding with design, will direct industrialists about the features that a good design should carry and also it will be an important guide in the determination of the right design strategies in the product development process. Winner designs will be promoted both in national and international platforms through exhibitions and publications.
The award ceremony will be conducted between October 18-22, 2016, as part of “Turkey Design Week” which will be performed as the first time this year in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy and the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM) . During Turkey Design Week, panels, conferences and workshops will be organized with the participation of worldwide known designers, universities, design schools, industrialists and academicians in industrial design, fashion design and visual communication design fields. The organization will be enriched with the exhibitions and runway shows of the product and projects by the finalists of the design competitions being held throughout the year. Turkish designs, which are awarded in the globally prestigious design competitions, will also be part of the event as well as national/international project exhibitions of the design centers and design offices. The event that will bring together all partners in the design field under the same roof, will form an integrated design ecosystem, by also including the Ceremony and Exhibition of Design Turkey Award.
Built under the initiative of BTSO (Bursa Chamber of Commerce and Industry), countdown started for the establishment of excellence center for textile and technic textiles, advanced composite excellence center and the biggest center for vocational certification and tests in the country.
Ibrahim Burkay, chairman of Bursa Chamber of Commerce and Industry pointed out that the textile excellence center for technical textiles on 13 thousand sqm area will take the lead for the sustainable growth of the textile industry in the province. He said, “The business people in Bursa have to focus on higher value added products instead of standard and regular products if we want to improve our position in international arena. The center will play a vital role in the production of high value products and in the development of new technologies.
Research and development activities are important for improving the values of product, especially in the fields of smart textiles, nano products and three-dimensional fabrics. There will be a “fashion and design center” and a “composite center” in the facility. Thus, companies will be able to keep pace in the technologies of the future. In this center more than 100 different tests will be carried out, including space and defense textiles, sports textiles, composite materials, home technic textiles, geotextiles, apparel technic textiles and others.
